Frequently Asked Questions

Questions

General questions

Which areas do you serve?

We are based in Hillsboro and work across the Portland metro: Beaverton, Tigard, Lake Oswego, West Linn, Sherwood, Tualatin, Aloha, Forest Grove, Cornelius and Portland, plus Oregon City, Milwaukie, Happy Valley, Clackamas, Wilsonville, Gresham, Troutdale, Fairview, Newberg, North Plains and Banks. We travel up to 30 to 40 miles from Hillsboro depending on project size.

How do I get an estimate?

Send the contact form on this site with a short description of the project. Quote requests come in around the clock, and we reply to arrange a visit. Estimates are free for qualifying projects.

Are you a licensed contractor?

Yes. One United Construction is a licensed Oregon residential general contractor, CCB #253801, and is veteran-owned and locally operated.

What does your estimate include?

A detailed estimate with a clearly defined scope of work, so you know what is included, what is not, and how the project will be managed before you commit.

Can you meet in the evening or on a weekend?

Our regular hours are weekdays, with Saturday by appointment. Evening and weekend appointments are available on request; mention it in the contact form.

Questions

Bathroom Remodeling questions

How much does a bathroom remodel cost?

It depends on the size of the room, whether plumbing or walls move, and the tub, shower, tile and fixtures you choose. We walk the space, then give you a detailed estimate with a clearly defined scope of work. Estimates are free for qualifying projects.

Can you replace just the tub or shower without remodeling the whole bathroom?

Yes. Bathtub and shower replacements are part of our bathroom work, so you can replace a worn tub or shower on its own or make it one part of a larger remodel.

Can you convert my bathtub into a walk-in shower?

Yes. Walk-in shower conversions are one of the most common bathroom projects we take on. We look at the existing drain, walls and floor first, then set out in the estimate exactly what the conversion involves.

How long will my bathroom be out of use?

That depends on the scope: a tub or shower replacement is a much shorter job than a full gut remodel. Your estimate lays out the work in order so you know what to expect before anything is torn out.

Who manages the plumbers, electricians and other trades?

We do. As a licensed residential general contractor we handle project management and subcontractor coordination, so you have one point of contact for the whole project.

Questions

Deck Construction and Replacement questions

Should I choose composite or wood decking?

We build with both. Wood costs less up front and has a natural look; composite asks for less upkeep over the years. We talk through how you use the deck and what you want to maintain, then price the option you prefer.

Can you replace my old deck instead of repairing it?

Yes. Deck replacement is a core part of this service. We look at the boards, railings and framing together and tell you plainly whether a full replacement makes more sense than patching the old one.

How much does a new deck cost?

Price depends on the size, the height off the ground, the decking material, railings and stairs. After we see the site we give you a detailed estimate with a clearly defined scope. Estimates are free for qualifying projects.

Do you handle the site preparation?

Yes. Demolition and site preparation are part of what we do, so tearing out an old deck and getting the ground ready for the new one are written into the same project.

Questions

Home Remodeling and Renovations questions

What kinds of remodeling projects do you take on?

Interior and exterior remodeling and residential property improvements, including flooring installation, drywall installation and repair, general carpentry, and demolition and site preparation.

Do I need a licensed general contractor for my remodel?

For projects that involve several trades, a licensed general contractor keeps the work coordinated and accountable. One United Construction is a licensed Oregon residential general contractor and manages the subcontractors on your job.

How do you price a remodel?

Every remodel is different, so we start with a visit and then write a detailed estimate with a clearly defined scope of work. You see what is included before you commit. Estimates are free for qualifying projects.

Do you take on commercial remodeling?

Our work is primarily residential, and we are open to commercial projects that fall within our licensing. Describe the project in the contact form and we will tell you whether it is a fit.

Questions

Fence Installation and Replacement questions

How much does a new fence cost?

The total depends on the length of the fence line, its height, the material, the number of gates and the ground it runs over. We measure on site and give you a detailed written estimate. Estimates are free for qualifying projects.

Can you remove my old fence as part of the job?

Yes. Demolition and site preparation are part of our work, so taking out the old fence and preparing the line for the new one can be included in the same estimate.

Should I replace my fence or repair it?

It depends on how much of the fence and its posts are failing. We look at the whole run and tell you honestly whether replacement or a smaller fix makes more sense.

Questions

Siding Installation and Repair questions

Should I repair my siding or replace it?

If the damage is limited to a few areas, a repair is often enough. If problems show up across the house, new siding may be the better investment. We inspect it and explain the options in a detailed estimate.

How much does new siding cost?

Siding cost is driven by the size of the house, the material, the amount of trim, and what we find underneath once old siding comes off. We give you a clearly defined scope of work before anything starts. Estimates are free for qualifying projects.

Can siding work be combined with other exterior projects?

Yes. Because we also handle exterior remodeling, decks and fences, we can plan siding alongside other work on the outside of your home and coordinate it as one project.

Questions

Concrete Work questions

What concrete projects do you handle?

Patios, driveways, sidewalks and slabs for homes, with commercial projects considered when they fall within our licensing.

How much does a concrete patio or driveway cost?

It depends on the area, the thickness the job needs, how much digging and grading the site needs, and access for the pour. We measure, then give you a detailed estimate. Estimates are free for qualifying projects.

Can you remove old concrete first?

Yes. Demolition and site preparation are part of our work, so breaking out and hauling away an old slab or walk can be included in the same project.
